Four parts.
One performance.

Play a bass in one part, a pad in another, then add a lead and a sequence. Each part has its own patch, filters, modulation and effects.

Split them across your keyboard, layer them together or give each one a MIDI channel. Up to 24 stereo voices are shared across the four parts.

What does a stereo voice mean?

The stereo signal path starts at the oscillators and continues through filters and effects to the output. Use stereo spread and modulation to place movement inside a patch. The four parts are separate sounds; polyphony is the number of voices available to play them.

One turn.
Several parts in motion.

Assign parameters across different parts to the One Knob, with an individual range for each. Turn it to change several layers together, including parts you are not currently editing.

The three macro controls work on the selected part. Dedicated filter controls and MIDI Learn let you decide which parameters stay under your hands.

Nahaufnahme: One Knob drehen, während ein mehrteiliger Klang läuft. Zugewiesene Parameter und individuelle Wertebereiche einblenden; Änderungen müssen hörbar sein.

Draw the movement.

Shape a user LFO with 16 points on the touchscreen. Keep the steps distinct for rhythmic changes or smooth the curve for gradual motion. Three internal CV lanes add step-specific modulation from the arpeggiator.

Keep the alternatives.

Store up to eight parameter variants in a preset. Compare a softer attack, a different filter setting or another modulation idea while keeping the same wavetable and sample resources.

Inside the XVA engine

Each of the four parts gives you two main oscillators — switchable between Wavetable, Virtual Analog, and Resonator — plus a dedicated sample-based noise oscillator with SFZ multisample support. All running in true stereo.

Wavetable Oscillator

Scan and spectrally reshape wavetables, including Serum-compatible imports. Oscillator-level unison adds detuned layers with adjustable stereo spread without allocating additional synth voices.

VA Oscillator

Start with familiar virtual analog waveforms, then explore PWM, hard-sync-style shapes, formants and phase distortion. Mix the result with a wavetable or resonator on the other main oscillator.

Resonator Oscillator

A noise exciter drives 64 resonant bands. Shape the attack, damping and harmonic spacing to move from plucked and bowed textures to metallic bells.

Sample-Based Noise Osc

The dedicated noise/sample oscillator also loads SFZ multisamples with velocity layers, key splits and loop modes. Add acoustic instruments, orchestral textures or drum hits to a synth patch.

Bring your wavetables to hardware.

Bring the tables you already use into your hardware workflow. Import Serum-compatible .wav wavetables through VibesConnect, then shape them with the Vibes’ filters, modulation matrix and effects.

Use Serum-compatible wavetable files without converting them to a proprietary format.

Import through VibesConnect.
SFZ Multisample Support

Layer multisamples with synthesis.

Load a piano, string machine or choir as the sample oscillator, then layer it with the two main oscillators. Shape the combined patch with stereo filters, envelopes, Vintage Mode and Cloud Reverb.

Aurora imports SFZ key zones, root notes, velocity ranges, loop points and random ranges for round-robin zones. Per-zone level, pan and tuning come across too. Legacy Vibes multisamples remain compatible.

Import through the SFZ editor in VibesConnect. Then play and shape the instrument on the hardware.

Build a patch around a real instrument.

Start with a dry string-machine multisample. Add a wavetable layer, use a filter envelope to shape the attack, then bring in Vintage Mode and Cloud Reverb. The multisample is a source inside the synthesis engine, so the rest of the patch stays yours to design.

Aurora also improves sample note starts and crossfades retriggered voices. Import support covers the SFZ features listed above; it is not a promise to reproduce every SFZ instrument or opcode.

Filters, Modulation & Effects

Shape the signal before the filters, route it through two stereo multimode filters, and add movement with modulation and effects. Each part has its own sound-shaping chain.

Wave Shaper

Apply the Wave Shaper to Oscillator 1, Oscillator 2 or the full mix before the filters. Choose from multiple algorithms for harmonic saturation and more pronounced distortion.

Dual Multimode Filters

Two stereo filter paths per voice, with oscillator routing and a crossfade between paths. Choose low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and notch types, including ladder and MS-20-style models.

Modulation Matrix

24 slots per part connect envelopes, LFOs, velocity, aftertouch and other sources to supported destinations. Aurora adds effect parameters and sample-oscillator pan: let an LFO vary reverb decay or an envelope move delay feedback.

Effects Engine

Up to 10 effect slots per part, plus two mixer effect chains. Cloud Reverb joins the existing reverb, stereo delay, chorus, phaser, EQ and dynamics. The FX load display shows processing demand per effect and per part.

Shape the space. Vary each voice.

Two additions to the sound engine in Aurora 5.0: Cloud Reverb for spatial design and Vintage Mode for controlled differences between voices.

Cloud Reverb.
Build the space around your sound.

Start with a close room, open into a hall or hold a texture in a long, evolving tail. Cloud Reverb runs alongside the existing reverb, with independent engines for the left and right channels.

26 presets
Rooms, plates, halls and special-effect spaces.

Sequence, perform and mix in one instrument

Arrange four synth parts and drums with the clip launcher and step sequencers. Add external MIDI instruments and balance the performance in the built-in mixer, without a computer.

Clip Launcher

Seven tracks cover four synth parts, drums and two external MIDI instruments, with up to eight clips per track. Launch individual clips or whole rows in time from the touchscreen, supported pad controllers or VibesConnect.

Drum Machine

Play up to 14 drum samples without taking voices from the synth parts. Import your own one-shots, program patterns up to 64 steps and mix each instrument with its own level, pan and effect sends. Route selected drums to the sidechain bus for rhythmic ducking.

19-Channel Mixer

Mix four synth parts, 14 drum instruments and the external audio input. Use two mixer effect chains for drums or external gear, with separate main and headphone buses. The stereo input can also be configured as two independent mono channels.

Play it. Loop it. Add the next layer.

Arm a track and select an empty slot to create a clip and start recording. Select it again to turn the take into a loop. Play over a clip in an armed track to overdub more notes.

Record parameter movements alongside the notes. A metronome with count-in helps you start in time, and the piano roll follows the playhead as you record and play back.

Let the groove shape the patch.

Send selected drum instruments to the sidechain bus and use dynamics processing to make the synth parts respond to the rhythm.

Bring another instrument into the mix.

Connect one stereo source or two mono sources to the audio input, add mixer effects and balance them alongside the internal parts. Set the headphone send separately from the main mix.

A 64-step sequencer for every part

Each part has a programmable 64-step engine with velocity, octave changes, legato and hold. Three internal CV lanes feed step-specific values into the modulation matrix. Aurora adds pan per step for movement across the stereo field.
Play with the pattern while it runs. Aurora’s SKIP and RESET modes advance a step or return to the beginning on cue. Combine the arpeggiators, clip launcher and drums to develop a performance on the instrument.

Per-step control

• 64 steps with page switching
• Velocity per step
• Octave jumps per step
• Legato & hold per step
• 3 CV lanes → modulation matrix
• Live transposing via chord input
• BPM sync or free-running
• Keyboard retrigger mode

What comes together in the Vibes

The Vibes combines sound design, sequencing and performance in a compact desktop. These are the features that connect those workflows.

4-in-1 SynthStation

Four-part synthesis, a drum machine, a mixer and a clip launcher share one instrument. Move from designing a patch to playing it in a sequence without changing devices.

True Stereo Signal Path

Voices, filters and effects run in stereo. The stereo signal path begins at the oscillators and continues through to the output.

Import What You Already Own

Import Serum-compatible wavetables and SFZ multisamples, then use them together with the Vibes’ filters, modulation and effects.

VibesConnect included

VibesConnect gives you a browser-based editing and performance interface. It is included with the instrument, with no separate installation or subscription.

Stage-Ready, No Laptop

Use the clip launcher and touchscreen to control your performance directly from the instrument, without a computer on stage.

Keep eight versions of a patch

Save up to eight parameter variants inside a preset to compare different sound-design ideas. Variants share the preset’s wavetable and sample resources; your library lives in the 14 GB internal storage.

How artists use the Vibes

“
I love wavetable synthesis going back to the early Serum 1 days. When I first picked up the Vibes I loved the innovative features and the fast workflow. Combining 2 wavetables and an SFZ sample library gives you so many options to create great sounds — all in one small box ready to get thrown in a backpack with a small MIDI keyboard on the go.

“
For over 20 years I’ve been immersed in synthesizers — digital, analog, and modular. Software offers endless variety, but nothing replaces the tactile experience of hardware. The Mayer Vibes offers virtually endless inspiration with its flexible synthesis and convenient browser interface.

Beat Müller aka Synthmill

Sound Designer
“
Programming and playing on Vibes is a truly inspiring experience because it’s a concept so different from a simple synthesizer. This little device packs incredible power — the only limit is your imagination. Multiple audio engines, a studio-quality effects section, and a clip launcher. And the best is yet to come.

Your questions, answered.

Q

Can I load my Serum wavetables?

Yes. Any Serum-compatible .wav wavetable works. Drag and drop via VibesConnect or load from USB.
Q

What can I do with SFZ multisamples?

SFZ is an open format that maps samples across notes and playing dynamics. Load instruments with velocity layers, key splits and loop modes into the noise/sample oscillator, then combine them with the two main oscillators.
Q

Can I use my existing MIDI controllers?

Class-compliant USB MIDI devices can be assigned to the Vibes. Aurora adds dedicated profiles for Akai Fire, APC Key 25, APC Mini / Mini MK2 and Novation Launchpad, with functions that vary by controller.
Q

Is it fully standalone?

Yes. Play, design sounds, sequence and mix directly on the instrument. VibesConnect adds a browser workspace for editing and file management, including the SFZ import editor.
Q

How does the clip launcher compare to Ableton?

The clip-based workflow will feel familiar to users of Session View: trigger and rearrange clips across seven tracks. On the Vibes, those tracks cover four synth parts, drums and two external MIDI instruments, with up to eight clips per track.

Q

Can it control external synths?

Two external MIDI tracks can sequence other instruments. Bring their audio into the stereo input and process it through the mixer effect chains. The input can also work as two independent mono channels.

Q

Is VibesConnect free?

Yes. VibesConnect is included with the instrument. It runs in a browser over the local network, with no separate application to install.
Q

MD900 preset compatibility?

Yes. Same XVA engine, full preset exchange between MD850 and MD900.
