The MD850 Vibes XVAOS 4.0 update is now available. It’s the biggest firmware release we’ve shipped for the MD850 Vibes synthesizer to date. The headline feature is Vibes Connect, a browser-based SynthStation editor that brings full DAW-mode editing and resource management directly to your computer. This release also delivers a refactored drum computer, proper sustain pedal support, three new arpeggiator sync modes, and a long list of stability and workflow improvements.
If the MD850 sits at the center of your studio, XVAOS 4.0 makes it noticeably faster to work with, easier to navigate, and more reliable in daily use.

Vibes Connect: the browser-based SynthStation editor
Vibes Connect is the centerpiece of XVAOS 4.0. The editor runs directly in the browser. There’s no installation and no platform-specific driver required. Connected over USB, Vibes Connect provides a full graphical interface for the MD850’s DAW mode, exposing what used to be device-only territory in a way that’s editable from your computer.
Three areas benefit immediately from the Vibes Connect browser editor:
- DAW-mode editing: Tweak parts, modulations, and engine parameters directly in the browser while the MD850 plays.
- Performance workflow: Switch between sounds, A/B compare, and tweak without navigating menus on the device.
- Resource management: Performances, presets, drumkits, and wavetables become structured and easy to organize. It’s a meaningful complement to the device display, not a replacement for it.
Vibes Connect is part of the SynthStation philosophy behind the MD850 Vibes: a self-contained hardware synthesizer that integrates cleanly into modern production workflows whenever you want it to.
Drum Computer: refactored for stability and stereo
The MD850 drum computer has been rebuilt under the hood. The refactoring isn’t just cleaner code. It produces direct improvements for users: proper stereo output on the Drumsampler, corrected behavior on SAVE_AS in the drumkit browser, and fixed display issues with long drum-instrument sample names.
If you use the MD850 for beats and percussive arrangements, XVAOS 4.0 is a meaningful step forward in both sound and workflow.
Playability: sustain pedal, expression pedal, and ARP sync modes
Several XVAOS 4.0 additions target live and performance behavior:
- Sustain pedal support via both the onboard pedal jack and MIDI CC64.
- Expression pedal with auto-calibration for pedals from 10 kΩ to 50 kΩ, usable in parallel with the knob.
- ARP sync modes with three new options: FREE-CLK, FREE-NOTE, and TRANSPORT. The arpeggiator can now be locked tightly to the DAW transport or deliberately allowed to run free. A new SYNC label keeps the active mode visible at a glance.
The new PreviewPlayer rounds this out. It plays presets including embedded sequences and respects the BPM stored in the preset metadata. MIDI CC, channel pressure, pitchbend, and end-of-track events are correctly forwarded to the engine, FX, and arpeggiator.
Engine and modulation updates
A few new tools on the sound design side of the MD850 Vibes:
- MOD-DELAY: Two new tremolo modes (Tremolo1 and Tremolo2) extend the modulation delays into classic amp-vibe territory.
- ADSR: New NoteOn modes let the envelope restart from 0 instead of continuing from the current value.
- Audio-rate PAN modulation opens up FM-style stereo motion and finer movement in the stereo field.
Stability, usability, and data safety
A large part of XVAOS 4.0 is detail work across the entire OS layer of the MD850. The most important items:
- Safer saving: Fixed a behavior where powering the device down immediately after saving could result in incomplete or 0-byte files.
- Dirty handling: An asterisk on the resource name now reliably indicates unsaved changes for performances (including internals), presets, and drumkits. SAVE_ALL and error notifications have been reworked.
- MIDI behavior: Pitchwheel on ET1/ET2 now lands on the correct track. CC, channel pressure, and aftertouch no longer leak across all parts. BendDown in MIDI part settings works again. The arpeggiator handles NOTEOFF correctly, so stuck notes are gone.
- Usability: Mapped USB MIDI keyboards can be activated at any time, the on-screen keyboard has an option to reveal the password, and the FACTORY2 folder is now filtered on startup.
- Engine fixes: STD-DLY overflow eliminated, LFO Delay now produces modulation during the release phase, the resonator OSC has correct PAN/balance and a properly scaled fine frequency spread, and shaper modulation and graphics have been reworked.
- MidiLog to file is now available for easier debugging on the user side if anything does misbehave.
A complete list of changes is available in the official release notes.
